Alpaca fabric is recognized as one of the most luxurious in the world. South America has been home to the alpaca for thousands of years. It is widely believed that their unique fiber was originally reserved for ancient Inca royalty. Alpaca is inherently a smoother fiber than sheep’s wool and is known for being more durable. Garments made from alpaca fabric don’t pill (you know, those annoying little balls on your grandmas sweater) and are hypoallergenic.

The alpaca provides a silky smooth and light weight fleece. Their fleece is known to be one of the warmest fibers and best for all weather. Alpaca fleece contains microscopic air pockets, providing great insulation to keep you warm. These same air pockets allow for an unprecedented breathable comfort. Many outdoor sports enthusiasts greatly benefit from alpaca fabric. It does not retain water and is a natural thermal insulator, thus offering more comfort and versatility in extreme conditions.

Alpacas themselves are very eco-friendly and generally cleaner than most livestock. They drink very little water and actually have paws more like dogs rather than hoofs therefore are less prone to tearing up the grassy fields they graze. Alpaca fleece requires less chemical dyeing and processing due to the bright natural colors of alpaca.

Some choose alpaca fabric clothing because it is warm in the winter and lightweight for the fall and spring. Others choose alpaca clothes for their sustainability. We choose it for both. Sustainable materials are important to us which is why we manufacture premium quality alpaca fleece beanies and tanguis cotton shirts. Redneck Rhino alpaca beanies are 15% alpaca fleece and have a comfortably tight fit. Because alpaca fleece has a strong flexible fiber, the Redneck Rhino beanies will form to your head for a perfect fit over time.
